Rachel Caroline Derrah
President, Co-founder
Rachel is currently studying urban design and environmental planning at Dalhousie University with a focus on political ecology and regional economics. Rachel has been involved with community-based action most of her life but has recently joined the co-operative movement. Being a student in Halifax who has experienced absentee landlords first hand and paid far too much for low quality living conditions, she decided to take her housing situation into her own hands. She is grateful to be part of the co-operative sector and hopes to stay involved with co-operative business in the future!
Jason Pelley
Co-founder
Jason Pelley is one of the founding members of the MSLC, and focuses on strategic and financing matters. During his time in Halifax Jason has worked extensively on many projects across the social spectrum especially in the areas of the environment, women's issues and international concerns such as genocide, international relations and micro finance. A recent Dalhousie graduate he continues to work on initiatives in Halifax and abroad. Jason sees co-operative principles - particularly those applied to housing and business- as a key piece in the puzzle of community building and retention of vibrant local economies in increasingly impersonal, inequitable urban cores.
